How to send material for inclusion in St Albans Voice

Not all contributions can be published, this is a matter of editorial decision, but we will try to include as many as possible which either genuinely add to the discussion of issues in St Albans or enable community groups to communicate more efficiently.

Contributions should be personal if of a partisan nature or factual if on behalf of a voluntary or other non-commercial organisation. We hold no brief for any political, religious or other institutionalised positions. If your views arise from such a source they should be your own take on them and will certainly not be published if they are simply a rehash of a manifesto or ideological standpoint. In any case this would make for superfluous and tedious reading.

What you must do

If you want to send information, details of events or other material for inclusion in St Albans Voice then you should email it to stalbansvoice@btinternet.com, preferably as part of the message rather than an attachment and you must:

  • include your name, address and contact telephone number. These must be supplied even though they may not be published. Usually your name would be included as a 'by-line' but other details only at your explicit request.
  • give an expiry date, that is a date after which the material may be removed from the website eg when it becomes out-of-date.
  • give a topic under whose heading the material should be included - either one already an option on the website front page or a new one. We will decide whether it is worthy of opening a new topic heading or if it can be included under the 'Miscellany' heading.
  • give as succinct and clear copy as you can - longwinded and obscure arguments do not make good content.

What you must NOT do

  • Send in unacknowledged material from the work of others. This is plagiarism and usually a breach of copyright. Best put everything in your own words or acknowledge the quotation, preferably with a reference to the source.
  • Write blasphemous, abusive, libelous or otherwise distasteful and unacceptable material. It will not be published, both on grounds of legal liability and as being contrary to the intention of St Albans Voice to provide an informative and civilised contribution to local debates. See the terms and conditions page.
  • Include trademarks and similar symbols whose use is possible only with the explicit permission of the owner of that right.

What you can send in

  • At present we are building up local topics as the site gets used by people in St Albans.
  • Content can include opinions, factual material, notification of events and activities etc.
  • Eventually it is hoped to have a separate diary noticeboard section, but at present these will be included in the topics pages.
